Describe a current IT-related ethical issue: Since this is a paper exercise, not a real-time situation, you may want to construct a brief scenario where this issue comes into play, and thus causes an ethical dilemma.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer: One current IT related issue I want to discuss is PRIVACY.

Privacy is an Ethical stand, that one owns a property or information that is only used or known by him. In the IT industry, privacy is the restricted ownership of a data, that can only be accessed by you.

This has been an ethical issue in the IT Industry for years, and is always on the increase as technology advance, making this topic a very large one to discuss, but we shall limte our discussion to social media account and email account.

We don't longer have a private email address or social media account anymore, because anybody anywhere can easily search us on our social media account and see informations we have decide to share only to friends. Our email address is not private anymore because most times we get mails mostly in the spam folder from people we don't know and can't tell how they got our email address. Internet fraud had been on increase because our privacy are not properly secured.

Just yesterday I got a friend request from someone I never wanted to be friends with on a social media platform and that was my manager, he saw my nickname, I use that nickname on my social media because I don't want my official path to cross my social path, thereby people with my full name can't search me on my social media account. But because friends suggestions are made to people with your contact, he saw me as a friend suggestions and sent a friend request. Today when I came to work he friendly called me by my nickname, which I don't want to cross my official path.

Another example is the email account, so many people have seen email account as a social media account which can be used to chat and play. Email account is not supposed to be used like a social media account, as it is for important and official informations. Just within last week and this week I have gotten about six unwanted mails from unknown source, which are sending informations that i have not subscribed for.

They are still many other issues related to privacy in the IT Industry, which has lead to defrauding cases.

The technological tools available today for creating computer-based learning materials are incredibly more powerful than those introduced just a few years ago. We can make our own movies with camcorders in our homes; we can publish our own books. Soon teachers and students will be able to use computer-video technology to produce their own learning materials. All it takes is time, know-how, and some funds.

Student Version

Frick (1991) claimed that computers would become so powerful that K-12 educators and students would able to produce their own multimedia and Web-based learning materials. He further predicted that they would just need to take the time required to learn to use the authoring tools and related technologies such as digital cameras and camcorders.

Which of the following is true for the Student Version above?a. Word-for-Word plagiarismb. Paraphrasing plagiarismc. This is not plagiarism

Answers

Answer:

c. This is not plagiarism

Explanation:

In research, the term plagiarism refers to the act of taking someone else's work or words and writing as if they belonged to one own's. In other words, it refers to pretend that some discoveries or thoughts are one's own when they are really from someone else's.

In this example, the student mentioned that Frick (1991) said that computers would become so powerful that they educators and students would be able to produce their own multimedia learning materials. We can see that this student is not pretending that these thoughts or discoveries are his but he is actually citing Frick as the author of this. Therefore, c. This is not plagiarism.

Answer: THIS IS NOT PLAGIARISM

Explanation: Plagiarism can be said to bee an act of copying another individual idea, text, or other creative work and presenting it as one's own especially without permission or referencing.

Clearly in the student version above, the student explicitly referenced, Frick (1991), this quality illustrates that the student is not trying to claim the work as their own. This is enough to deduced that the student version is not plagiarism or any form of plagiarism as stated by the options.

You are a university student, but you also wait tables at a restaurant. One evening, one of your professors happens to come in for a meal (awkwardly, on a first date!). Use role theory to describe the interaction (and possible role conflict) that ensues.

Answers

Final answer:

The interaction between the university student and the professor can be described using role theory. Role conflict may arise when the student has to balance their roles as a waiter and a student. To manage this conflict, open communication and finding a balance between the roles is essential.

Explanation:

The interaction between the university student and the professor can be described using role theory. Role theory states that individuals play different roles depending on the situation they are in. In this case, the student plays the role of a waiter at the restaurant and the role of a student at the university. However, when the professor comes into the restaurant, a role conflict may arise as the student has to balance both roles.

The student may feel a sense of tension and dilemma between providing good service as a waiter and maintaining a level of professionalism as a student. This could create an awkward situation for both the student and the professor, especially considering it is the student's first date at the restaurant. The student may struggle to perform both roles effectively, and it may affect their ability to focus on their duties as a waiter or engage in meaningful conversation with the professor.

To manage this role conflict, the student could try to create boundaries and prioritize their roles. They may need to communicate with their professor about their dual role and discuss any limitations or constraints it may impose on their interactions while waiting tables. By open communication and finding a balance between their roles, the student can potentially navigate the situation successfully.

Compare and contrast Andrew Carnegie’s views about wealth and inequality with the life of the average coal miner. What impact does Carnegie’s background have on his views and how have his views influenced the United States in both the Gilded Age and the present. Based on your reading of the life of the average coal miner, are Carnegie’s views ethical? Why or why not?

Answers

Answer:

Andrew Carnegie was extremely wealthy having built a personal fortune from steel. He was a philanthropist and believed in giving back to the community but he still maintained control of where and how to donate. The kind of projects he prioritized did little to directly help the class of people who struggle daily like coal miners.

Explanation:

Andrew Carnegie was known as a philanthropist, he felt it was his duty or obligation to give back to the community as a wealthy person. But he was also the wealthiest man in the world in 1901 when he retired. There is a big disparity between his life and the life of  average coal miner who had to struggle in the mines and risked their health and lives because the earnings were a bit higher than other options for the poorer or working class at the time, particularly where there was coal mining in the Appalachians and around Pittsburgh, for example. This philanthropic view was not ethical because it was the wealthy man himself who still decided where the money was to be donated or invested and in the kind of services it would provide. Carnegie donated to museums and libraries in the Pittsburgh area for example, and while valuable in themselves they do little to improve the quality of life for working class people directly, like coal miners. Although Carnegie did respond personally to some families in the Harwick Mine Disaster for example,  having medals privately minted for the families of two miners who gave their lives trying to save the others. Carnegie also gave $5 million to establish a Carnegie Hero Fund (note how the gesture was branded in the sense even in giving it carries the Carnegie name). But 181 people died in that accident that was indicative of other sacrifices many countless other coal miners made to help amass his personal fortune.

Andrew Carnegie views has been unethical based on the life of the average coal miner.

Andrew Carnegie was the wealthiest man in the world in 1901, which made himself from steel. In order to pay back to the society, Andrew established the Carnegie Hero Fund for the coal miners who left their lives in Harwick Mine Disaster.

Being the wealthiest man, Andrew donated to libraries and museums. He has been able to deliver much to coal miners, but responded very less. This represents that Andrew has been unethical view for the life of the average coal miner.

Answers

Answer:

a) avoid being absorbed in the experience and miss the important political point of theater.

Explanation:

Bertold Brecht was a German poet and playwright who designed the alienation effect. He wasn't comfortable with the emotional attachment the audience had with characters in a play as a result of emotional manipulation by the film directors.

He politicized "epic drama", a kind of style that seek to allow audience objectivity rather than emotional involvement in a play. He wanted his audience to be objective and hence make rational judgement.

The correct answer is letter A

The alienation of man, for Brecht, does not manifest itself as a product of artistic intuition. Brecht takes care of it consciously and purposefully. But it is not enough to understand and focus on it. The essential thing is not the alienation itself, but the historical effort to de-alienate man.

The role of the dramatic author is not reduced to reproducing, in his work, the society of his time. The main objective, both in terms of content and form, is to exercise a transforming function, which acts revolutionarily on the 'social environment.

When trying to measure the length of a pendulum, every group member measured incorrectly measured the length of the of the string (instead of correctly measuring the distance between the pivot point and the center of mass). How will this mistake alter their final results

Answers

Final answer:

Measuring the string length instead of the pivot point to the center of mass in a pendulum leads to an incorrect calculation of the period, since the period's formula squares the error in length, resulting in significant timing errors in experiments and applications like pendulum clocks.

Explanation:

When measuring the length of a pendulum, measuring the string length instead of the distance between the pivot point and the center of mass will result in an incorrect calculation of the pendulum's period. The period of a simple pendulum is directly related to the square root of the length measured from the pivot point to the center of mass (i.e., the effective length of the pendulum).

Considering the derived formula for the period of a simple pendulum, T = 2π√(l/g), where T is the period, l is the length, and g is the acceleration due to gravity, any error in the length measurement will be squared in the calculation of the period. Therefore, the incorrect length will lead to an incorrect calculation of the pendulum's period. In experiments or applications like pendulum clocks where timing is crucial, this mistake would result in significant errors.

This emotional state could be related to family dynamics or cultural expectations which Pat fears might not be aligned with bringing a new partner to a family event. The underlying issue stems from Pat's hesitation due to the lack of guidance and attention in their upbringing, as mentioned in the text 'The failure of Pati's parents to provide her with guidance, attention and to control her exposure to popular media at a young age prevented her from having a healthy relationship with her grandparents and a healthy identity.' Which of the following is an assumption of the pure expectations hypothesis? a. The maturity risk premium is positive. b. Treasury bonds have a liquidity premium. c. The maturity risk premium is zero. d. The maturity risk premium is negative.

Answers

Answer:

c. The maturity risk premium is zero.

Explanation:

Pure expectation theory states that the forward rate will represent expected future rate. Term structure is said to be a reflection of what the market expects future short term rates to be.

As future rates are expected to be the same as spot rates for that date, the theory is only applicable when there is no risk premium. That is the maturity risk premium is zero.

Final answer:

The pure expectations hypothesis assumes that the maturity risk premium is zero, meaning long-term rates simply reflect expectations of future short-term rates.

Explanation:

The assumption of the pure expectations hypothesis related to interest rates and bond yields is that the maturity risk premium is assumed to be zero. According to this theory, the observed long-term interest rates are purely a reflection of current and future short-term interest rates expected by the market. It presumes that the premiums which might compensate for risk associated with longer maturities, known as maturity risk premiums, do not exist. Therefore, it discounts factors like the potential for a bond defaulting over the long term or changing economic conditions that could affect the bond's price. With this hypothesis, the yield curve is shaped exclusively by expectations of future short-term interest rates.

A researcher wished to determine the effect of fertilizer concentration on plant growth. She put bean seedlings into four groups, with 10 plants in each group. One group was not fertilized. She measured each plant's height weekly for three weeks. How should she plot the data to analyze the effect of fertilizer on plant growth

Answers

The researcher should use the following way to analyze the effect of fertilizer on plant growth:

Plot the plant height on the y-axis and time in weeks on the x-axis. Each fertilizer concentration should be plotted on a separate line.

Explanation:

A graph is a diagram which is used to represent the relation between variable quantities.

Line graphs are commonly used to track changes over short and long periods of time. Line graph provides the result accurately compared to bar graphs, because it can exactly represent the small changes. Line graphs can be used to monitor changes over the same period of time.

To monitor the effect of fertilizer on plant growth, the height of the plant should be plotted on y-axis and time in weeks on the x-axis. The concentration of each fertilizer should be plotted on a separate line.

Final answer:

To analyze the effect of fertilizer on plant growth, a researcher can use either a line graph to plot plant height over time or a bar graph to show average growth after three weeks. It is best to use average growth figures to avoid overcomplication and clearly indicate different fertilizer concentrations and measurement time points.

Explanation:

To analyze the effect of fertilizer on plant growth, the researcher should use a line graph or a bar graph. For a line graph, the x-axis would represent the time in weeks and the y-axis would indicate the average height of the plants. Each line would represent one group of plants treated with a different concentration of fertilizer, including the control group with no fertilizer. A bar graph could show the average increase in height for each fertilizer concentration after three weeks, with one bar for each group.

It's important to make sure that the data is plotted in a way that is easy to interpret. Average growth, fertilizer concentration, and measurement time points should be clearly indicated. Including every single data point might overcomplicate the graph, so focusing on averages could provide a clearer understanding of the fertilizer's impact.

If comparing the effects of different brands of fertilizer, the researcher could use a separate graph or different colored lines or bars within the same graph to represent each brand. Moreover, considering the interaction effects, such as how different amounts of water may influence the effectiveness of each fertilizer, may also be necessary if such a variable is included.
