False

Answer 2
Final answer:

African Americans played a considerable role in WWII, both in the military, despite facing segregation, and in the vital industrial efforts on the home front.

Explanation:

The statement that African Americans played a very small role in WWII is False. African Americans were instrumental in the war effort, serving in the military and working in the wartime economy. While they faced segregation and discrimination, both as civilians and in the military, they contributed significantly to the outcome of the war. For instance, the Tuskegee Airmen, an all-Black unit, became one of the most respected fighter groups. In addition, the industrial efforts on the home front by African Americans and women were crucial for supplying the Allied forces with necessary materials and support.

Final answer:

Industrialization and urbanization contributed to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire by creating unsafe working conditions and allowing for the lack of fire codes and regulations. Additionally, the owners' prioritization of profits over worker safety led to locked exit doors that trapped the workers during the fire.

Explanation:

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in 1911 was a tragic event that resulted in the deaths of 146 workers, mostly young women, and brought attention to the dangerous working conditions in industrial factories. Industrialization and urbanization contributed to this tragedy in several ways:

Industrialization led to the growth of factories like the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, where workers faced long hours, low wages, and unsafe conditions. The demand for cheap labor in urban areas fueled the rapid expansion of such factories.Urbanization also played a role in the fire as crowded cities allowed factories to be built close together, increasing the risk of fire spreading quickly. Additionally, the lack of fire codes and regulations in these overcrowded areas made it easier for unsafe practices like locked exit doors. The owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory prioritized profits over the safety of their workers. They locked one of the doors to prevent theft and control the movement of their employees, which resulted in trapped workers who could not escape the fire.

Jackson put his close allies into office when he became president. By appointing his supporters to key positions, Jackson aimed to strengthen his administration and advance his policy agenda.

When Andrew Jackson became president, he implemented a policy known as the "spoils system." This system involved appointing loyal supporters and members of his political party to various government positions. This means that Jackson put his own political allies into office when he assumed the presidency.

Jackson's use of the spoils system helped solidify his political power and allowed him to reward his supporters with positions in government. The spoils system was a departure from previous practices, where government positions were often filled based on merit or seniority. Jackson's use of the spoils system helped shape the political landscape of his presidency and had a lasting impact on the role of patronage in American politics.

Andrew Jackson appointed Martin Van Buren as his secretary of state and Roger B. Taney as head of the Treasury Department. Jackson's use of appointments was characterized by the principle of rewarding loyalty and consolidating support for his administration, despite facing opposition and controversy over his decisions.

Explanation:

Andrew Jackson's Appointments in Office

Upon becoming president, Andrew Jackson was resolved to reshape the federal government with loyalty and democracy at its core. He appointed Martin Van Buren as his secretary of state, looking to reward Van Buren for his role in building support for Jackson's candidacy. Progressing with his plans, Jackson encountered resistance from Louis McLane and William J. Duane over the withdrawal of government funds from the Second Bank of the United States, leading to McLane's reassignment and Duane's termination.

Roger B. Taney was moved from his role as attorney general to spearhead the Treasury Department when his predecessors failed to align with Jackson's intentions. Taney began the controversial process of moving federal deposits to state banks, a significant move in Jackson's crusade against the Second Bank. Meanwhile, Jackson enforced the principle of rotation in office, removing nearly half of the appointed civil officers for his replacements, promoting his supporters, and stoking the flames of patronage in the federal government.

In the grander scheme, Jackson's tenure saw a surge of populist momentum and the advent of the Democrat Party. Despite the claims of addressing the corruption in Washington, Jackson himself engaged in the practice of appointing individuals who were loyal to him, thus reaffirming and enhancing patterns of political patronage.

What would society be like without the 19th Amendment?

Answers

My answer will be somewhat anecdotal. I have read some things about the role of women in progressive movements (especially during the early 20th century). But I don't recall any succintly useful references.
Women were very active in promoting prohibition, child labor laws, public education, government welfare and other progressive government policies. It has been posited that they were instrumental in providing public support for New Deal programs (of which Social Security is the major descendant). Women leaders believed that the government could be a tool to promote social welfare. A common hypothesis is that they effectively influenced women voters to support progressive government programs.
It might therefore be reasonable to believe that without women votes, the welfare state would be much smaller. There might be no Federal education oversight. Schools would be managed entirely at the state and local level (if not privately). Welfare needs would be handled primarily by families, churches and other voluntary associations. I even wonder whether government would have so aggressively pursued the war on drugs.
To attribute the rise of welfarism in America solely to women would be overly simplistic. However, I think that the votes of women were a major contributing factor.
Some might extol the rise of progressive policies in America as good. I on the other hand, have made no secret of my disdain for those policies. I believe that government-run education is detrimental to liberty and provides poor educations (the majority of success being attributed to involved families and less to public spending). I believe that government managed welfare has unwittingly (though some claim intentionally) damaged families since the need for family reliance has been reduced. At the same time, private provision for welfare needs has reduced (which I believe, while not perfect, tend to be better managed). And the war on drugs has been a disaster. While I am no proponent of illicit drug use, government efforts to eradicate drug use have only spawned a lucrative (and violent) black market while criminalizing non-violent people (who often become violent and more useless than ever in the dysfunctional prison system).
My general critique of progressivism via the strong arm of government is that it almost always results in adverse unintended consequences.
Incident to women's suffrage, the standing of women in our society has improved. I view this as a positive development. The ills that I have described are mostly attributable to problems inherent in politics. Ambitious politicians have taken advantage of the attitudes of voters (leveraging not only gender attitudes, but race, class and so on) to foist upon us ever increasingly progressive government control.
I believe that it would be erroneous to attribute better treatment of women to women's suffrage. It may be true that the same public attitudes that led to their right to vote have led to their better treatment. Indeed, given the general positive attitude to voting, it is hard to imagine that better overall treatment could have been achieved while forbidding women the right to vote. As long as voting is considered a fundamental right, women would have been relegated to second class status if denied that right. However, to assign causality is wrong in my opinion.
In summary, more equal treatment of women has been an improvement to our society. At the same time, the voting rights that came with their equal treatment have unfortunately helped to promote progressive government policies that have been damaging to our society. I applaude equal rights to women but condemn political institutions that took advantage of this major change to voting demographics.
Many would be unhappy with are presidents(past and present) also blacks(man and woman ) and woman would not have the right to vote leading to even more protests amongst blacks and woman’s

Immigrants coming into American cities at the turn of the century faced many problems trying to live in these places. What were some of the issues that they encountered?

Answer:

Issues faced by immigrants to the United States at the turn of the century include: discrimination, low wages and hazardous working conditions, poor living and sanitary conditions and

Explanation:

At the end of 1800s, after the depression, the world saw an increase in the movements of peoples from parts of Europe and Latin America into the United States. Most of these immigrants came for several reasons. Some of these reasons ranged from search for better economic conditions to fleeing from famine areas, wars, religious, political and racial conflicts and persecutions.

While on one hand it was generally believed that mass immigration brought innovations and progress caused by factors such as the increase in work force,  labor could be found at a lower costs . Subjection to lower wages and to hazardous working conditions meant that these immigrants were easily exploited. Those from Italy fell prey of the "the padrones" - recruitment agents from Greece and Italy. Some of these nationals could be found in farmlands, the Polish Jew and Russians were known for their needle trade and pushcart abilities, the Hungarians, Slovaks, Greeks etc could be found in the coal mines. Many also flocked the cities centres in search of better way of living. Most of the immigrants not affording better traveling conditions and so came in steerage accommodations. On arriving into the United States they were kept in  'barn-like structures" during the periods of mass immigration awaiting screening after which they were probed and questioned on their health worthiness. Ill-looking or deemed to be disease carriers were prevented from entering into the United State. They faced suspicions and discrimination related to their reputation. They were questioned for hours to fish out criminals, anarchists and strikebreakers. Apart from these issues, the increase in population also meant low living conditions as urban accommodation and sanitation were being stretched to its limit as most could only afford overcrowded and unsanitary living conditions.
